Frangipani Tree (Plumeria obtusa) is a tropical ornamental known for fragrant flowers and glossy leaves. A warm outdoor location with sun and excellent drainage supports healthy growth.
Sun and placement
Choose a sunny position with enough room for the branches. Introduce a plant previously kept in shade gradually to stronger exposure. Avoid cramped locations where leaves and branches rub against walls.
Watering through the seasons
Water a new planting while roots establish. For an established tree, allow soil to begin drying between deep waterings. Reduce irrigation when growth slows or leaves are lost; a less active tree uses less water.
Drainage and nutrition
Use a free-draining garden site or container mix. Avoid a low spot that collects irrigation water. Feed during active growth according to the product label and keep fertiliser away from a dry, stressed root ball.
Pruning and problems
Remove damaged branches using clean tools and gloves, avoiding contact with the milky sap. Large shaping cuts should be considered carefully because they remove potential flowering tips. Check moisture and drainage if stems soften. Flowering varies with maturity, light and season rather than following a fixed timetable.
